Starting today, I am taking a minimum two-week “Sabbatical” from my career as a technology consulting manager. I have now officially left a position as Manager of Program Management at a consultancy in Redmond, WA. I have worked at Microsoft as either a full-time employee or a contractor nearly continuously for the last twenty-one years and twenty-seven days. I started as a Program Manager on the Office Shared Feature team on January 12, 1998.
For the next two weeks, I am planning to write a series of long-form articles that I will post to LinkedIn on the following topics:
- How to build a Project Management Office (PMO) at a company from zero.
- How to advocate and set up a Scrum-based technology development process at a large company, where there is significant resistance doing so, as well as how to navigate other obstacles in doing this.
- What Program Managers will be doing in the year 2030. (Spoiler: we will still have jobs)
- Other ideas as they come up!
I hope you enjoy reading these. Send me any ideas you have as well.
